These sit in the room itself, on the wall or the ceiling. They clear humid air, steam and odours before condensation can settle on the walls and the ceiling. Connections run from Ø100 to Ø160, with moisture ratings of IP45, IPX4 and IP44. See bathroom extractor fans.
In-line extractor fans
An in-line fan goes inside the ductwork, away from the room it serves. With the motor out of the room, the fan can sit wherever there is space for it, such as a loft or a ceiling void. They fit Ø100 to Ø315 ducting and handle up to 1840 m³/h. See in-line extractor fans.
Kitchen extractor fans
A kitchen fan deals with cooking odours, steam and heat, in warmer air than a bathroom fan ever sees. These are centrifugal fans rated to +60 °C, on Ø100 to Ø125 connections. See kitchen extractor fans.
Wall and window extractor fans
These discharge straight through an outside wall or a window pane, so no duct run is needed. Airflow is 220 to 600 m³/h. See wall and window extractor fans.
Industrial ceiling fans
These are destratification fans. Warm air collects under the roof, and they push it back down to floor level. They move the air around inside a tall space rather than extracting it. Sizes go from Ø800 to Ø3000 mm. See industrial ceiling fans.
Plate mounted axial fans
An axial plate fan moves air straight through a wall or a panel. Sizes run from Ø200 to Ø400, and one of them works down to −40 °C. See plate mounted axial fans.
Extractor fan covers
A cover replaces the front of a bathroom fan, either to change its colour or to renew a worn front. The colours are white, black and red. See extractor fan covers.
How the fan switches on
A standard fan runs while it is switched on, usually together with the light. A timer fan keeps going for a set time after switch-off, so the remaining moisture clears. A humidity sensor starts the fan on its own when the humidity in the room rises, and a motion sensor starts it when someone walks in.

What is an extractor fan used for?
It takes humid, stale air out of a room and sends it outside. In a bathroom that means clearing the steam before condensation settles on the walls and the ceiling; in a kitchen, removing cooking odours, steam and heat.
Which bathroom extractor fan is the most effective?
Airflow sets how quickly a fan clears the room, and the bathroom fans here range from 15 to 260 m³/h. A timer or a humidity sensor keeps the fan going after the shower until the moisture has cleared.
Do extractor fans use a lot of electricity?
No. In this range the wall and window fans draw 25 to 28 W, and the kitchen fans 40 to 160 W. With a timer or a humidity sensor, a fan runs only while the room needs it.
Is there an extractor fan that does not vent outside?
Not one that removes moisture. A recirculating unit filters out the odour but returns the same air to the room, water and all. Where the fan cannot go in an outside wall, an in-line fan sits in the duct run and the duct carries the air outside.
