Which bathroom fan?
Start with the duct size, which the existing opening usually settles. Airflow in m³/h comes next, and last of all the way the fan switches on.

Standard fans
A standard fan runs only while it is switched on, which in most bathrooms means together with the light. Connection sizes are Ø100, Ø120, Ø150 and Ø160; airflow ranges from 15 to 260 m³/h.
Fans with timer
Once switched off, a timer fan carries on for a set time so the last of the moisture can clear. These come with Ø100 or Ø120 connections and move 15 to 185 m³/h. The full selection is on the extractor fans with timer page.
Fans with humidity sensor
A humidity sensor starts the fan by itself as soon as the room turns humid, and every model in this group has a timer too. Connections run from Ø100 to Ø150. The whole group is on the extractor fans with humidistat page.
Fans with motion sensor
Here the fan switches on when someone walks into the room. Connection sizes are Ø100, Ø125 and Ø150, and most models add a humidity sensor.
Ratings
All the bodies are plastic, rated IP45, IPX4 or IP44 against moisture. Most models have a backdraft shutter, so cold air cannot blow back in through the fan while it is off. Fans approved for ceiling mounting are listed on the ceiling mounted extractor fans page.
Common questions
What type of extractor fan is best for a bathroom?
One with a moisture rating, sized to the existing duct. With a timer or a humidity sensor it keeps going after the shower until the moisture has gone. Every fan on this page carries a moisture rating.
Do bathroom exhaust fans have to be vented outside?
Yes. The humid air has to leave the building, whether through the wall, the roof or a duct. Blow it into a loft and the moisture simply stays up there.
Do I need a timer or a humidity sensor?
A timer runs the fan on for a set time after it is switched off. A humidity sensor tracks the moisture instead, so the fan keeps going through a long shower and stays off when nobody has run the water. Any fan here with a humidity sensor has a timer as well.
