Air valves finish the room end of a ventilation duct and set how much air each room gets. There are extract valves and extract-supply valves, each in Ø100, Ø125, Ø160 and Ø200.

Which valve, and how to set it
An extract valve is for a room where air is taken out, such as a bathroom or a kitchen, while an extract-supply valve works in either direction. Set the valves once the system is installed: open the one nearest the fan least and the one farthest from the fan most. The regulating damper in the branch does the coarse setting, and the valve does the fine setting.
Extract valves
These take stale air out of the room. All four sizes come in steel, and Ø100 and Ø125 also come wood-faced. Screwing the centre of the valve in or out sets the airflow for the room, and that is how the system is balanced.
Extract-supply valves
Because the air can pass either way, one valve serves for supply or for extract. They mount on the ceiling, have a rubber gasket and come in all four sizes: plastic in the two smaller ones, plastic and steel in the two larger ones.
The outside end of a duct is finished with a ventilation grille.
Common questions
What does the air valve do?
It finishes the duct in the room and sets how much air passes. The centre of the valve screws in to pass less air and out to pass more.
What is the difference between an air valve and a grille?
An air valve sits at the room end of the duct, and its airflow can be set. A grille sits on the outside wall and protects the opening from the weather.
Are these air admittance valves?
No. An air admittance valve belongs to a drainage system. These are ventilation valves for the room end of an air duct.
