When a wall or window fan fits
They suit a room with an outside wall or a window but no duct. Compared with a bathroom fan, a wall or window fan moves more air and has nothing between it and the room, which is why it is also louder.
Wall and window fans
The fans are plastic and work from 0 to +40 °C. Airflow is 220 to 600 m³/h, noise 42 to 45 dB(A) and power 25 to 28 W.
If the fan cannot go in an outside wall, an in-line extractor fan sits in the duct run instead.
Common questions
Can a wall fan cool a room?
These are extractor fans, so they take air out of the room and do not blow it at people. The only cooling they give comes from removing the warm air.
Why is a wall fan louder than a bathroom fan?
It moves more air, and there is no duct between the fan and the room. Where noise matters more, an in-line fan in a duct is the quieter choice.
What stops cold air coming back in?
A backdraft shutter, which closes the opening when the fan stops. On a fan without one, a grille with a gravity shutter on the outside does the same job.
